Meet the Team

About Us

Our team name “Laniākea” (lah-nee-ah-keh-ah) means “immense heaven” in Hawaiian and is the name of the galaxy supercluster that is home to the Milky Way. The name also pays homage to the Polynesian navigators, who used knowledge of the stars to navigate the Pacific Ocean. Team Laniākea was established in 2019 with the goal of developing low-cost satellite kits that could be used in classrooms to provide hands-on learning opportunities to students. Since then, our focus has shifted to sending these kits to space while pairing them with scientific payloads.
